Limerick City of Culture
Limerick is Ireland’s City of Culture throughout 2014. Merging edgy and urban with tradition, in a rich mix of international and local acts, the varied programme promises street events, visual art, music, food, fashion and craft, architecture and sport.
Limerick City will achieve a climactic cultural high when its headline event of the year Royal de Luxe presents ‘The Giant’s Journey’ for three whole days (5 – 7 September).The world renowned company will unleash the original tale, developed and specially scripted for the city on the unsuspecting public. Limerick will be transformed as a massive giant rambles through the streets, transfixing audiences as they follow the Giant’s progress on its epic three day journey.
While 2014 is sure to be Limerick’s year in the cultural spotlight, there are many reasons to visit the city at any time including the imposing 800 year old medieval King John’s Castle, and the Frank McCourt Museum, which celebrates the work of his famous autobiographical novel, Angela’s Ashes.
